As is with all technology, some systems require periodic maintenance. Because each Trimlight system is unique, it can experience hiccups during installation and through the life of your system. Below are tips to help troubleshoot if issues arise. You can also watch videos on our Video Tutorials page for further help. If you still experience issues after following these tips, please call our office and talk with one of our technicians.

Lighting Issues

The light is behaving differently, or not working at all.

This does happen from time to time. Take a picture or video of the light and email it to us and we will have a technician contact you with steps to get it fixed.

A section of lights isn't working properly.

This happens periodically if there is a bad connection in the wire or a faulty light. Take a picture or video and email it to us so we can diagnose the issue to determine if we need to schedule a service call or if we can fix it over the phone.

Connecting to Home Wi-Fi

Trimlight isn't showing up as an available network on my device.

Ensure the Trimlight controller has an illuminated BLUE light near the VCC and GND terminals. If the blue light is not on, push the APA/STA button several times until the light is solid blue. If the light does not change, unplug the system, wait 20 seconds, and plug it back in to perform a soft reboot. Repeat until the light is blue.

I keep receiving a "connection failed" prompt.

A few things could be happening:

The network says "connection successful" but it still isn't connecting.

  1. If the light on the controller is still flashing green, unplug the system and plug it back in (soft reboot). The light should go to solid green.
  2. Force close the app on your mobile device and reboot the device.
  3. Confirm the device is connected to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal used for the controller.
  4. Re-open the app and re-populate the list of available devices. Do not push +Add Device a second time.
  5. Allow 3–4 swipe-downs until the controller name populates.

If still unsuccessful, your router may not be compatible and you will need to use the Trimlight Wi-Fi Signal only. Push the AP/STA button until the light is blue.

I have multiple controllers with the same name. Which do I connect to?

Every Trimlight controller comes preset as "Trimlight." Once connected to the correct controller, go to the device menu page and push and hold on the name "Trimlight". It will ask you to rename it — use no spaces or symbols. The system will now broadcast only the name you assigned.

I lost power and now my system isn't working properly.

If there was a loss of power (power outage or outlet on a switch), the system may default to a standard color or pattern. Open the app, connect to the controller, and re-send the data back to the controller. We do not recommend controlling the power of the controller with a smart outlet or external timer that cuts power to the unit.
